About the role
Multiple one- to two-year Research Assistant positions at Karolinska Institutet, one of the world’s top medical universities. The roles support AI projects on breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment decision support, working with mammography, digital pathology, and electronic health records. Deadline 26 May 2026.
Responsibilities
- Build, train, and evaluate deep learning models on large medical imaging datasets.
- Curate and pre-process imaging and EHR data with strict adherence to GDPR and ethical approvals.
- Run statistical analyses and prepare results for publication.
- Collaborate with radiologists, oncologists, and ML researchers across the Karolinska cancer research programme.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related field.
- Practical experience training deep learning models, convolutional, transformer, or foundation-model architectures.
- Python with PyTorch; familiarity with medical imaging libraries (MONAI, PyDICOM).
- Fluent English.
Nice to have
- Prior work on medical imaging or healthcare data.
- Familiarity with digital pathology workflows or DICOM tools.
- Experience working under GDPR or research ethics frameworks.
