Fully Funded PhD: Inequalities in AI Skills in Education

About the role
Four-year fully funded PhD at KU Leuven investigating how access to AI tools is reshaping skill formation in secondary and tertiary education, and where new inequalities are forming. The project combines education science, sociology, and applied machine learning. Deadline 25 June 2026.
Responsibilities
- Design and run mixed-methods studies (surveys, classroom observations, log analysis) on AI tool use among students.
- Build computational models that link tool access patterns to learning outcomes.
- Publish in education-research journals (Computers and Education, JCAL) and HCI venues.
- Collaborate with Flemish education partners and policy stakeholders.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in educational sciences, sociology, computer science, or a related field.
- Comfortable with both qualitative methods and quantitative data analysis (R or Python).
- Fluent English. Dutch is welcomed for fieldwork but not strictly required.
- Strong interest in equity, access, and ethics in technology.
Nice to have
- Prior fieldwork experience in school settings.
- Familiarity with learning analytics or educational data mining.
- Publications, even at workshop level, in education or HCI.
