About the role
Feed the Children is a US-based international non-profit organisation working to end child hunger. The Country Director for Tanzania leads the full Tanzania portfolio from Dar es Salaam, overseeing programmes in child wellbeing, food security, nutrition, and community resilience. The role carries responsibility for strategy, staff management, donor relations, and financial accountability across all country operations. This is a senior leadership position with 8-10 years of experience required. Deadline: 9 June 2026. Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction for Feed the Children’s Tanzania country programme in line with global organisational priorities.
- Oversee all operational, programmatic, and financial aspects of the Tanzania Country Office.
- Supervise a senior leadership team of programme, finance, and operations managers.
- Manage government and donor relationships, including compliance with USAID, EU, and other institutional donor requirements.
- Lead business development: proposal writing, budget development, and representation at sector coordination forums.
- Ensure robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems are in place and used.
- Maintain compliance with Tanzania government registration requirements and labour law.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in international development, public health, business administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 8-10 years of progressive senior management experience in the NGO or international development sector.
- Proven track record managing multi-donor portfolios (USAID, UN agencies, or bilateral donors) in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Strong financial management skills; experience managing budgets above USD 3 million preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in child nutrition, food security, or community development programming.
- Excellent English; Swahili competency is an advantage.
Nice to have
- Prior country director or deputy country director experience in East Africa.
- Experience working with local government systems and community-based structures in Tanzania.
- Established networks with Tanzania Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and key donor missions.
