Engineering Lead, Lending
A full-time engineering role at MNT-Halan, based in Cairo, Egypt.
About the role
MNT-Halan is one of Egypt’s largest fintech unicorns, providing payments, lending, BNPL, and digital banking services to merchants and consumers. The Engineering Lead, Lending owns the platform powering MNT-Halan’s lending products, leading a team of 8 to 12 engineers. Application deadline 31 August 2026.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 8 to 12 engineers covering hiring, performance, growth, and execution.
- Own technical direction for the lending platform: origination, decisioning, servicing, and collections.
- Partner with product, risk, and operations teams to ship lending features.
- Operate services in production through on-call rotations and incident response.
- Influence Halan’s broader engineering practices (architecture, observability, security).
Requirements
- Eight or more years of professional software engineering experience and three or more years managing engineers.
- Hands-on technical depth in backend systems (Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python).
- Track record of shipping high-volume transactional systems.
- Deep understanding of lending platforms (credit decisioning, loan management systems).
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English; Arabic an asset.
- Authorisation to work in Egypt.
Nice to have
- Prior experience at a digital lender, fintech, or bank technology team.
- Familiarity with Central Bank of Egypt lending regulations.
- Open source contributions or technical writing.
