Postdoc in Molecular Genomics (Mitochondrial RNA Synthesis)
A full-time research role at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, based in Stockholm, Sweden.
Position closed.
The deadline (5 Jun 2026) has passed.
About the role
The Molecular Genomics Laboratory at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to study mechanisms of mitochondrial RNA synthesis during cellular stress and differentiation. The position is funded for 1+1 years by the Carl Tryggers Foundation. Lab PI: Assistant Professor Anniina Vihervaara (viher@kth.se). Application deadline: 5 June 2026. Apply by email.
Responsibilities
- Investigate how mitochondrial RNA polymerase (mtPol) is regulated under heat shock and during cell state transitions.
- Map the transcriptional organisation of the mitochondrial genome using next-generation sequencing and cell biology assays.
- Analyse how transcriptional responses are coordinated between nuclear RNA polymerases (Pol I, II, and III) and mitochondrial mtPol.
- Conduct experiments using both wet-lab (biochemistry, molecular biology) and bioinformatics approaches.
- Contribute to grant reporting, manuscript preparation, and mentoring of junior lab members.
Requirements
- PhD obtained within the last three years prior to 5 June 2026 (i.e., degree awarded after June 2023).
- Expertise in genomics and cell biology, particularly related to mitochondrial biology or cell state transitions.
- Proficiency in at least one of: wet-lab molecular biology or bioinformatics analysis of sequencing data.
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
Nice to have
- Experience with single-cell omics or multi-omics data integration.
- Prior publications in mitochondrial biology, RNA biology, or chromatin-level gene regulation.
- Familiarity with both wet-lab and computational approaches.
How to apply
Send a CV, cover letter, and names of two references by email to viher@kth.se with the subject “Postdoc Application - Molecular Genomics” (reference PA-2026-1239). Applications submitted after 5 June 2026 will not be considered.
