About the role

Medair is an international humanitarian organisation providing emergency relief and recovery. This two-year field-based role, starting July 2026, is based in Khartoum or Port Sudan with regular travel to project locations across Sudan. The Health and Nutrition Advisor provides strategic and technical leadership for Medair’s health and nutrition portfolio in Sudan, one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. The role covers programme design, donor engagement, team mentoring, and supply chain oversight. Deadline: 19 June 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction for primary health care and emergency nutrition interventions (CMAM, IYCF, SFP) in Sudan.
  • Design and oversee programme implementation across Medair’s Sudan health and nutrition projects.
  • Lead proposal development for institutional donors (ECHO, USAID/BHA, FCDO); contribute to donor reporting.
  • Provide capacity-building and mentoring to national and international health and nutrition staff.
  • Represent Medair in health and nutrition sector coordination meetings (WHO, UNICEF clusters).
  • Oversee medical supply chain and pharmaceutical cold chain management.
  • Support context analysis and needs assessments to inform programme adaptation.

Requirements

  • Clinical degree (medicine or nursing) or Master’s degree in public health or international nutrition.
  • 3+ years of experience managing international public health programmes, with at least 1 year in a humanitarian emergency context.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing primary health care or emergency nutrition programmes (CMAM, IYCF).
  • Fluent English; Arabic is an asset.
  • Willingness to work in a complex, insecure environment with restricted movement.

Nice to have

  • SPHERE or humanitarian standards training.
  • Experience in Sudan, the Horn of Africa, or comparable conflict-affected contexts.
  • Familiarity with health information systems (DHIS2, KoBoToolbox).
