Programme Officer, Girls' Education and Protection
A full-time international development role at Plan International Ghana, based in Accra, Ghana.
About the role
Two-year fixed-term Programme Officer position with Plan International Ghana, based in Accra with regular travel to programme districts in the Northern, Upper East, and Upper West regions. The Programme Officer coordinates Plan’s portfolio of girls’ education and child protection projects, working alongside Ghana Education Service, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and community-based organisations. Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day implementation of Plan’s girls’ education and child protection projects across three to five districts.
- Conduct field visits to project communities (around 30 percent of working time) to monitor activities and engage with beneficiaries.
- Draft project progress reports, success stories, and learning briefs for donor reporting.
- Liaise with Ghana Education Service district officers, district assemblies, and partner CBOs on joint project activities.
- Support the country office on programme proposal development for new donor opportunities.
- Train field-level project staff and community volunteers on child safeguarding, gender, and protection principles.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development studies, education, social work, gender studies, or a closely related field. Master’s degree welcomed.
- Three to five years of professional experience in NGO programme work in Ghana or West Africa.
- Strong knowledge of child rights frameworks, the Ghana Child Protection Risk and Response framework, and SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).
- Demonstrated experience with monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) systems.
- Fluent written and spoken English. Working knowledge of at least one Ghanaian language (Twi, Dagbani, Hausa, Frafra, or Ga) is welcomed.
- Strong commitment to child safeguarding and gender equality.
Nice to have
- Prior Plan International or other major international NGO (Save the Children, UNICEF, Compassion International, ChildFund) experience.
- Field experience in Northern Ghana specifically.
- Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or similar).
- Familiarity with Sphere Standards or the Core Humanitarian Standard.
