About the role

The Department of Technology Systems within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo is recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow to develop AI methods for early cancer detection using multimodal data. The position focuses on building deep learning models that combine imaging, molecular, and clinical data streams for clinical screening applications. Reference 301571. Responsibilities

  • Design and implement deep learning models for multimodal cancer detection that integrate imaging, genomics, and clinical data.
  • Build, benchmark, and validate ML pipelines on clinical cancer screening datasets.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals in medical AI, bioinformatics, and oncology.
  • Contribute to grant activity, student supervision, and collaboration with clinical partners in the Oslo University Hospital network.
  • Present research at national and international conferences.

Requirements

  • PhD in computer science, machine learning, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, physics, or a closely related field.
  • Practical experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
  • Prior work with medical imaging (radiology, pathology, or microscopy) or multimodal clinical data.
  • Publication record appropriate to career stage.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Nice to have

  • Experience with self-supervised learning or foundation models applied to biomedical data.
  • Familiarity with Norwegian health registry data or Nordic biobank resources.
  • Knowledge of Norwegian.
