Marketing Insights Data Analyst

About the role
Wasoko is a B2B e-commerce platform connecting informal retailers across East Africa to fast-moving consumer goods manufacturers, eliminating middlemen and reducing supply-chain costs for small shop owners. The company operates in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Senegal, and Zambia. This Marketing Insights Data Analyst role sits at the intersection of commercial analysis and operational intelligence, translating raw transaction and campaign data into decisions that affect product pricing, category strategy, and marketing spend. The position is based at Wasoko’s Nairobi headquarters. No advertised closing date; applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain dashboards and reports on marketing performance, customer acquisition cost, campaign ROI, and cohort retention using Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent tools.
- Write SQL queries against large operational databases to extract, clean, and analyse transaction, inventory, and customer data.
- Build statistical models for demand forecasting, price elasticity, and customer segmentation.
- Collaborate with the Category, Sales, and Marketing teams to define KPIs and interpret data in the context of Wasoko’s growth priorities.
- Prepare weekly and monthly insight reports for senior leadership.
- Identify data quality issues and work with engineering to resolve them upstream.
Requirements
- 5 or more years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or commercial analytics roles.
- Proficiency in SQL for large-scale data extraction and analysis.
- Hands-on experience with at least two of: Excel (advanced), Python or R for statistical analysis, Tableau, Power BI, or similar BI tools.
- Strong communication skills; ability to present findings to non-technical audiences clearly and concisely.
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, computer science, or a related quantitative field.
Nice to have
- Prior experience in e-commerce, FMCG, retail, or supply chain analytics.
- Knowledge of marketing attribution models and A/B testing methodology.
- Familiarity with African informal retail market dynamics.
- Experience with Python libraries (Pandas, Scikit-learn) for predictive modelling.
