Data Analyst, WHO Regional Office for Africa

About the role

Two-year fixed-term P-2/P-3 position at the WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) in Brazzaville. The Data Analyst supports the Information, Evidence and Research cluster, working on regional health surveillance dashboards, country health-system profiles, and outbreak intelligence for the 47 African Member States. Responsibilities

• Build and maintain dashboards visualising health indicators across the 47 African Member States.
• Analyse country-level data on disease surveillance, immunisation coverage, maternal and child health, and health workforce.
• Co-author regional briefing notes and the African Health Observatory’s annual report.
• Run statistical analyses (causal models, time-series, geospatial) on Member-State health data.
• Train AFRO country-office staff on data tools (Tableau, Power BI, R, Stata).

Requirements

• Master’s degree in biostatistics, public health, data science, applied mathematics, or a closely related field.
• Three to five years of analytical experience in a health, development, or research setting.
• Strong R or Python skills for data manipulation and statistical modelling.
• Experience with at least one dashboard platform (Tableau, Power BI, or D3).
• Fluent English. Working French is required for francophone-country portfolios.

Nice to have

• PhD or strong publication record in public-health or epidemiological methods.
• Prior WHO, Africa CDC, or large-NGO data experience.
• Geospatial analysis skills (QGIS, ArcGIS, or R spatial packages).
• Familiarity with the WHO’s Global Health Estimates and African Health Observatory data architectures.
