Overview

DAAD Study Scholarships for STEM Disciplines fund talented graduates from specific developing and emerging countries who want to complete a full Master’s degree in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, or engineering at a German university. The programme targets future professionals who plan to contribute to science and technology sectors in their home countries after graduating. African countries on the eligible list are Ghana and Kenya; other eligible countries include Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, Malaysia, Cambodia, and several others. The full list is published on the DAAD database page. Funding starts October 2027. Application deadline: 21 October 2026.

Eligibility

  • Citizen and resident of an eligible developing country (includes Ghana and Kenya from Africa - see DAAD page for full list).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM field, completed by 21 October 2026 at the latest.
  • No existing Master’s degree held before the deadline.
  • University degree not older than 6 years at the application deadline.
  • German proficiency at B1 level minimum for German-taught programmes, or English proficiency for English-taught programmes.
  • Not resident in Germany for more than 15 months before the application deadline.
  • Above-average academic performance.

How to apply

  1. Check the full eligible-country list and available STEM Master’s programmes via the source link.
  2. Identify a German state or state-recognised university offering your chosen STEM programme. DAAD does not assign universities; you select and apply to the programme yourself.
  3. Create a DAAD online account and start the application at the source link.
  4. Prepare: academic transcripts, a detailed study plan (2 pages), two letters of recommendation, CV, language certificate, and either a letter of acceptance from a German university or proof that you have applied.
  5. Submit the complete application before 21 October 2026.
  6. Selection decisions are made around February 2027; funding begins October 2027 or earlier if a German language preparatory course is needed.
