Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarship

Overview

The University of Melbourne awards approximately 1,000 Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarships each year to fee-paying international students starting an undergraduate degree. The award gives a 25% reduction in tuition fees for the full duration of the program. There is no separate scholarship application: eligible students are assessed automatically when they receive an unconditional admission offer.

The scholarship applies across all undergraduate programs offered to overseas fee-paying students. It is one of Australia’s largest automatic merit and need-based awards at the undergraduate level.

Benefits

The scholarship covers 25% of tuition fees for every year of the undergraduate program. The reduction is applied directly to the student’s tuition account. Students do not receive a cash payment, accommodation, or travel support. If a student transfers to a different program, eligibility is re-assessed at the time of transfer.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following:

• Hold citizenship of a country with a World Bank GDP per capita of USD 10,000 or less at the time of application.
• Have applied for and met the entry requirements for an overseas fee-paying undergraduate place at the University of Melbourne.
• Have completed secondary school outside Australia, or completed an Australian foundation program.
• Have no prior tertiary study (excluding extension studies completed in Year 12).

Students already enrolled in another degree or who have completed prior university-level coursework do not qualify.

How to apply

No separate scholarship application form is required. Apply for your chosen undergraduate program at the University of Melbourne through the standard admissions process. Students who meet the eligibility criteria above and receive an unconditional offer are automatically evaluated and notified of the award with their offer letter.

Key admission deadlines:

• 31 May 2026 for Semester 2 (July intake)
• 31 October 2026 for Semester 1 (February or March intake)
