Overview

The Africa Fellows in Education Program is a two-year fully supported research fellowship for early-career Sub-Saharan African researchers working on education policy. The programme is run by the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) in collaboration with the Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel (GEAI) and Stanford University. Each Fellow receives a $25,000 research grant plus up to $25,000 in covered expenses for mentorship, conference travel, and workshops. Deadline: 30 June 2026.

The fellowship develops skills in evaluating education research and evidence-based decision-making. Fellows build an in-country research project and receive direct mentorship from Stanford University faculty and African advisors.

Eligibility

  • Nationals of Sub-Saharan African countries, aged 35 or younger at application.
  • Hold a Master’s or PhD in a relevant field with a strong quantitative component (economics, statistics, public policy, education).
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative data analysis.
  • Clear interest in education policy research.
  • Affiliated with a government body, research institute, or higher education institution.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

  1. Create a profile on the PEP application portal at portal.pep-net.org.
  2. Prepare a research concept note, full CV, and two reference letters.
  3. Demonstrate institutional affiliation and describe your proposed in-country education project.
  4. Submit by 30 June 2026 through the portal.
  5. Shortlisted candidates undergo interviews before final selection.
