About the Role
Aalborg University offers a four-year fully funded PhD position in Systems Medicine, embedded in a consortium spanning seven European universities. The project applies computational modelling, network analysis, and multi-omics data integration to identify biomarkers for chronic diseases including metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.
All PhD fellows at Danish universities are employees. Salary follows the Danish collective agreement, starting at approximately DKK 27,700 per month (roughly EUR 3,700), with additional pension contributions of 17.1%.
Responsibilities
- Build computational models of disease-relevant biological networks using patient-level omics data (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics)
- Develop and validate biomarker signatures in collaboration with clinical partners at university hospitals
- Conduct research exchanges at two to three partner universities within the consortium (travel funded)
- Present work at international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals
- Contribute to teaching and supervision of undergraduate lab projects
Requirements
- Masters degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, systems biology, computational biology, biostatistics, or a related quantitative field, completed before the start date
- Proficiency in R or Python for large-scale data analysis, with experience handling multi-omics datasets
- Solid grounding in statistics and at least one area of molecular biology
- Strong written and spoken English; Danish is not required
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with network medicine or graph-based analysis
- Experience with single-cell sequencing or spatial transcriptomics
- Prior involvement in collaborative or consortium-based research
- Publications or preprints in computational or systems biology
