Postdoc in Efficient Foundation Model Inference across the Computing Continuum

About the Role
Aarhus University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to advance communication-efficient and distributed foundation model inference across the computing continuum, from cloud to edge. The initial appointment is one year starting 1 September 2026, with a possible extension of one to two years subject to performance. The principal investigator is Professor Qi Zhang.
This is a research-focused role at a well-funded Danish university with strong industry connections. Denmark’s collective agreements provide competitive salaries and benefits for postdocs.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement novel algorithms for scalable, low-latency foundation model inference at the edge and across distributed systems
- Develop frameworks for communication-efficient deployment of large models under bandwidth and compute constraints
- Publish findings in top-tier venues in machine learning, distributed systems, or communications
- Collaborate with the research group and international partners on joint projects
- Contribute to research group activities including seminars, workshops, and student mentoring
- Assist with grant applications where relevant
Requirements
- PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field, awarded before the start date
- Strong publication record in machine learning, distributed computing, or edge AI
- Proficiency in Python and experience with PyTorch or equivalent deep learning frameworks
- Solid mathematical grounding in optimization, information theory, or statistics
- Excellent written and spoken English
Nice to Have
- Experience with model quantization, pruning, or knowledge distillation
- Background in wireless communications or mobile edge computing
- Familiarity with HPC environments and large-scale GPU cluster training
- Interest in LLM serving infrastructure and inference optimization
