Programme Officer, AGRA

About the role

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a pan-African organisation supporting smallholder farmer productivity, market access, and policy reform in 11 African countries. Programme Officers lead grant-making and technical assistance portfolios within AGRA’s seed, soil health, market systems, or policy work. Application deadline 31 August 2026.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage a grant portfolio (USD 5 million to USD 20 million annually) supporting smallholder farmer outcomes in your country focus.
• Source new partners (seed companies, agro-dealers, processors, farmer organisations, and government agencies) and lead due diligence.
• Author grant memos and present to AGRA’s Programme Investment Committee.
• Provide strategic and adaptive-management support to grantees during implementation.
• Coordinate with country governments and peer funders.

Requirements

• Advanced university degree in agricultural economics, agronomy, public policy, or related field.
• Seven or more years of relevant professional experience.
• Demonstrated track record in African agricultural value chains, agribusiness, or smallholder farmer programmes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; French an asset for francophone West African portfolios.
• Authorisation to work in Kenya.

Nice to have

• PhD in a relevant discipline.
• Prior in-house experience at a major African agribusiness, NGO, or ministry of agriculture.
• Existing network across African seed, fertiliser, or extension systems.
