About the role
Two-year postdoc at Chalmers’ Division of Materials and Manufacture, Department of Mechanical Engineering, with possible one-year extension. The project investigates graphene and MXene-based electrode materials that combine high electrical conductivity, large surface area, and strong mechanical properties to improve lithium-ion battery charging speed, energy density, and cycle stability. Contact Jinhua Sun (jinhua@chalmers.se). Deadline: 30 June 2026.
Responsibilities
- Synthesize two-dimensional materials (graphene, MXenes) and composite electrode structures.
- Perform surface functionalization and electrochemical characterisation.
- Fabricate full battery cells and run cycling and rate performance tests.
- Analyse energy storage mechanisms using advanced techniques.
- Supervise graduate students and contribute to teaching at undergraduate or Master’s level.
Requirements
- PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent, with demonstrated experience synthesising and applying 2D materials in battery research.
- Strong experimental skills and publication record appropriate to career stage.
- Fluent English, written and spoken.
- Physical presence in Gothenburg required; valid residence permit by start date.
