Postdoc in Energy Systems Analysis

About the role

Two-year postdoc at Chalmers’ Division of Energy Technology, with a possible one-year extension. The position sits within the Department of Environment and Energy Sciences and feeds into large collaborative projects including Mistra Electrification and North European Power Perspectives. The role requires choosing between two research tracks: techno-economic analysis of industrial electrification pathways, or detailed modelling of district heating and building heating systems at city level. Responsibilities

• Develop and apply energy system modelling methods for industrial decarbonisation or heating sectors.
• Collect data and engage with industrial and municipal stakeholders.
• Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
• Co-supervise Master’s and doctoral students.
• Contribute to teaching at undergraduate and Master’s level.

Requirements

• PhD in Energy Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field, awarded before the start date.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research independently.

Nice to have

• Techno-economic modelling experience in industry decarbonisation or energy storage.
• Proficiency with algebraic modelling languages: Julia/JuMP, Python/Pyomo, AMPL, MATLAB, or GAMS.
• Experience in district heating or building energy modelling.
• Environmental assessment or life-cycle analysis background.
