About the role
The Division of Computing Science at Chalmers University of Technology (joint department with the University of Gothenburg) is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in large language model agents for research automation. The position sits at the intersection of software engineering and AI: the goal is to build LLM-agent prototypes that automate deep learning workflows, code generation, and software development tasks in collaboration with industrial partners.
The contract is two years full-time, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence in Gothenburg is required throughout employment. The position is reference REF 2026-0290, supervised by Yinan Yu (yinan@chalmers.se).
Responsibilities
- Design and develop LLM-agent methods and prototypes for deep learning and software engineering workflows.
- Evaluate methods systematically using established benchmarks and structured comparisons.
- Work directly with industrial partners to test methods in realistic development environments.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed venues in AI and software engineering.
- Contribute to undergraduate and master’s supervision and teaching at a level of up to 20% of working hours.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in computer science, AI, machine learning, or a closely related field, completed before the start date.
- Strong research record in deep learning, machine learning, or AI-assisted software development.
- Proficiency in Python and modern ML development environments.
- Experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently and in multi-stakeholder research settings.
Nice to have
- Experience with LLM agents, retrieval-augmented generation, or automated machine learning pipelines.
- Familiarity with code generation and program synthesis research.
- A track record of publications in top AI or software engineering conferences.
