MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow - Agri-Food Sustainability Transitions

About the Role
CREDA (Centre for Agro-food Economy and Development, a joint UPC-IRTA centre in Castelldefels) is hosting a candidate for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) 2026 call under Horizon Europe. The proposed project focuses on sustainability transitions in agri-food value chains in the Mediterranean region, combining life cycle assessment, agent-based modelling, and participatory research methods.
If the fellowship is awarded following the MSCA call deadline of 9 September 2026, the researcher joins CREDA for up to 24 months. The MSCA living allowance for Spain is approximately EUR 4,850 per month, plus mobility and family allowances where applicable. Researchers propose their own project; CREDA provides the institutional host letter and full research support infrastructure. The deadline of 15 July 2026 is the internal CREDA deadline for agreeing a hosting arrangement before the MSCA call closes.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute an original research project on agri-food sustainability transitions, co-developed with the CREDA hosting supervisor
- Apply to the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026 call (EU portal deadline: 9 September 2026) using CREDA as host institution
- Conduct fieldwork and stakeholder interviews with farmers, cooperatives, and policymakers in the Mediterranean
- Publish in high-impact journals and produce at least one policy brief per year
- Participate in CREDA seminars and contribute to ongoing centre projects
Requirements
- PhD in agrifood economics, environmental science, sustainability science, or a related field, awarded no more than 8 years before the MSCA 2026 call opening date (9 April 2026); career breaks are considered
- Must not have resided or worked in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months before 9 April 2026 (standard MSCA mobility rule)
- Solid quantitative or mixed-methods research skills
- Experience with at least one of: life cycle assessment, input-output modelling, or stakeholder analysis
- Fluent in English; Spanish or Catalan is a plus
Nice to Have
- Published record in agrifood or environmental sustainability
- Familiarity with EU Common Agricultural Policy debates
- Experience with Mediterranean farming systems or food supply chains

If both parties agree to proceed, CREDA issues an official hosting agreement letter.
