Agricultural Officer, FAO Africa

About the role
The Food and Agriculture Organization recruits Agricultural Officers across its African Regional Office (Accra), Subregional Offices (Addis Ababa, Harare, Libreville, Tunis), and Country Offices. Agricultural Officers lead technical work on crop production, food systems, climate-resilient agriculture, livestock, and natural resource management. Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to FAO programmes on crop, livestock, fisheries, or forestry.
- Lead project formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Coordinate with Ministries of Agriculture, research institutions (CGIAR centres), farmer organisations, and donors.
- Author technical papers, country strategy documents, and donor reports.
- Represent FAO at country and regional forums.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, agronomy, or related field.
- Seven or more years of relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in at least one priority area (sustainable intensification, climate adaptation, value chains, land tenure).
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English or French (or both); Arabic or Portuguese an asset.
- Willingness to travel and live in the duty station country.
Nice to have
- Prior UN system experience.
- PhD in an agricultural science.
- Field experience in fragile or conflict-affected contexts.
