Senior Product Engineer (Healthtech)

About the role

Senior Product Engineer position at Helium Health, the largest electronic medical records (EMR) provider for African hospitals and clinics. The team builds the core EMR platform plus adjacent products (HeliumDoc, HeliumCredit, HeliumOS) used by over 700 healthcare facilities across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and Liberia. Responsibilities

• Own and ship significant features end-to-end on the Helium EMR product or one of the adjacent platforms.
• Work across the stack (Vue or React on the frontend, Node or Python on the backend, PostgreSQL).
• Partner with product managers, designers, and clinical advisors to scope and prioritise.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
• Visit partner hospitals occasionally to see the product used in practice.

Requirements

• Four or more years of full-stack engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one backend language (Node.js, Python, or Go).
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and modern frontend frameworks (Vue, React, or similar).
• Production experience on at least one cloud platform (AWS preferred).
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Available to be in the Lagos office at least three days a week (Helium operates hybrid).
• Open to applicants resident in Nigeria, or willing to relocate.

Nice to have

• Prior healthtech, fintech, or other regulated-industry engineering experience.
• Open-source contributions or visible technical writing.
• Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, or other healthcare data standards.
• Bachelor’s or higher in computer science.
