Senior Lecturer in Computer Science: AI and Cybersecurity

About the role

Permanent full-time Senior Lecturer position at Karlstad University’s Faculty of Health, Science and Technology, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The post sits inside the Privacy and Security research group and combines teaching at Bachelor’s and Master’s level with funded research in AI and cybersecurity. The deadline is 20 May 2026.

Responsibilities

• Lecture on AI/ML and cybersecurity courses across Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.
• Run an independent research line within the Privacy and Security group, particularly AI for cybersecurity and trustworthy AI.
• Supervise degree projects and, where applicable, doctoral students.
• Develop external research partnerships with academic and industrial collaborators to attract funding.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Computer Science, AI, or a closely related field.
• Documented pedagogical skills in higher education.
• Published scientific output of high quality.
• Fluent English. Swedish required at appointment or developed during the post.

Nice to have

• Teaching experience in deep learning, generative AI, or reinforcement learning.
• Classical machine learning and cybersecurity expertise.
• International network and prior doctoral supervision.
• Experience attracting external research funding.
