Senior Lecturer in Computer Science: AI and Software Engineering

About the role

Permanent full-time Senior Lecturer position at Karlstad University, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The role is part of the same recruitment drive as the AI/Cybersecurity post but with a software engineering tilt, applying AI techniques to software construction, verification, and maintenance. Deadline 27 May 2026.

Responsibilities

• Teach Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in software engineering, AI, and ML for SE.
• Build a research line that applies AI to software engineering problems, code generation, testing, program repair, requirements engineering.
• Supervise theses and, where appropriate, doctoral students.
• Bring in external research funding through partnerships with industry and other universities.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, or a related field.
• Documented teaching skills in higher education.
• Solid publication record.
• Fluent English. Swedish required or developed during the post.

Nice to have

• Teaching experience in software engineering courses, testing, architecture, agile methods.
• Research record on AI for software engineering (LLMs for code, test generation, etc.).
• Industry collaboration history.
• Doctoral student supervision experience.
