Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Konga is one of Nigeria’s largest e-commerce platforms with a marketplace, payments arm (KongaPay), and logistics arm. The Senior Backend Engineer joins the platform team building services for the marketplace catalogue, orders, payments, and logistics integrations. Application deadline 31 July 2026.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services for the Konga marketplace.
• Lead design discussions for new platform features and integrations.
• Mentor mid-level engineers and review pull requests.
• Operate services in production through on-call rotations.
• Partner with product and operations teams across multiple Konga business lines.

Requirements

• Five or more years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in PHP (Laravel), Java (Spring), or Python (Django) and one major framework.
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and caching (Redis).
• Familiarity with REST API design, message queues, and containerised deployments.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English.

Nice to have

• Prior experience at an e-commerce, marketplace, or payments platform.
• Open source contributions or technical writing.
• Familiarity with Nigerian payment gateways and logistics partners.
