About the Role

Médecins Sans Frontières Eastern Africa is seeking a Full Stack Web Developer to develop and maintain web platforms supporting MSF’s operational and medical-humanitarian activities across the region. The role is based at the MSF Eastern Africa office in Nairobi and reports to the Applications and Development Specialist. The contract is open-ended and full-time, making it one of the more stable tech positions available in the NGO sector in Kenya.

The annual salary is EUR 23,296 at HQ Grade 7, with 2% annual increments up to ten years. Additional benefits include a work-life balance allowance of EUR 247-295 per month, 25 days of annual leave, employer pension contributions, and medical insurance for staff and family.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain full-stack solutions using October CMS (Laravel/PHP) and Drupal
  • Build responsive interfaces and reusable front-end components for humanitarian platforms
  • Evaluate emerging web technologies and propose integration strategies with the IT team
  • Collaborate with product owners to translate operational requirements into technical solutions
  • Provide incident response and support for web application issues
  • Promote equity, inclusion, and safeguarding principles in all digital work

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Proficiency in Python/Django, JavaScript/React, WordPress, October CMS, and Drupal
  • Solid understanding of REST/SOAP APIs and web services
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, responsive design, and secure coding practices
  • Fluent English (written and spoken)
  • Valid work authorization in Kenya (position open to local applicants only)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Docker, Linux, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Background working in NGO or humanitarian IT environments
  • Familiarity with Odoo or similar ERP/HRMS platforms
