Contract runs until March 2028, with possible extension for exceptional candidates. The project builds millimetre-wave metasurface prototypes using nonlinear circuits (diodes) and involves international collaboration with teams at the University of Nottingham, UCSD, and Kyoto University. Salary ranges from JPY 4,000,000 to 7,000,000 per year depending on experience; exceptional candidates may be offered up to JPY 10,000,000. Earliest start date: June 2026. Position may close early if a suitable candidate is identified. Formal deadline: 21 July 2026.
Responsibilities
- Design, fabricate, and characterise millimetre-wave metasurface devices incorporating nonlinear circuit elements.
- Collaborate with international partners and travel to partner institutions when required.
- Publish in Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, and equivalent journals.
- Contribute to lab operations and junior researcher mentoring.
Requirements
- PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a closely related field, awarded before the start date.
- Strong experimental or theoretical expertise in at least one of: metamaterials, metasurfaces, intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS/RIS), nonlinear circuits, millimetre-wave technology, or electromagnetic simulation.
- Track record of peer-reviewed publications appropriate to career stage.
- Fluent English, written and spoken.
Nice to have
- Background in AI, machine learning, or semiconductor device integration for electromagnetic applications.
- Experience with full-wave EM simulation tools (CST, HFSS, or COMSOL).
- Japanese language skills.
How to apply
Email Prof Wakatsuchi at wakatsuchi.hiroki@nitech.ac.jp with a subject line reading “Postdoc Application - [Your Name]”. Attach a detailed CV including a full publication list and contact information for at least one referee. Formal closing date is 21 July 2026, but apply early as the position may close sooner.
