About the role
Four-year PhD position at TUM School of Management, with the Operations and Supply Chain Management group. The role combines doctoral research with teaching support under Germany’s standard “Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter” (Research Associate) contract. Pay follows the TV-L E13 scale, typically €4,200 to €5,500 per month depending on experience. Deadline 28 May 2026.
Responsibilities
- Carry out original research on a topic in operations management, mathematical optimisation, stochastic modelling, or empirical/behavioural operations.
- Publish in MS, M&SOM, POM, Operations Research, and similar top OM journals.
- Teach 4 hours per week of seminars or tutorials in the OM course portfolio.
- Co-supervise Master’s theses.
Requirements
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in operations management, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, economics, or a closely related field, with excellent grades.
- Solid grounding in mathematical optimisation and statistics.
- Programming proficiency in Python or Julia; familiarity with at least one solver (Gurobi, CPLEX, MOSEK).
- Fluent English. German is welcomed for teaching but not required.
Nice to have
- Publications, preprints, or accepted conference papers in operations management or OR.
- Experience with empirical or experimental methods.
- Background in supply chain, healthcare operations, or sustainable operations.
