Full funding 111 days left

Overview

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s flagship international awards, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Each year the programme funds talented professionals from eligible countries to pursue a one-year master’s degree at any UK university. More than 160 countries and territories are eligible, including all countries in sub-Saharan Africa, most of North Africa, and dozens of countries across Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific.

Applications for the 2027/28 cohort are expected to open in August 2026, with a deadline of 7 October 2026. Awards are announced in early 2027, and scholars begin their degree programmes in autumn 2027.

Benefits

Each Chevening award includes:

  • Full tuition fees at the chosen UK university
  • Monthly living allowance for the duration of the programme
  • Return economy class airfare between the home country and the UK
  • Additional grants for visa fees, travel within the UK, and study materials

The monthly living allowance rate differs by study location (London rates are higher than rates for other cities).

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for entry to a UK master’s programme.
  • Have completed the undergraduate degree at least two years before the application deadline.
  • Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience (roughly two years full-time) by the application deadline.
  • Commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after completing the scholarship.
  • Apply to three different eligible UK master’s programmes, receiving an unconditional offer from at least one before the award is confirmed.

Chevening does not fund pre-sessional programmes, PhD degrees, or part-time study. Civil servants, military personnel, and some other categories are restricted from applying - check the eligibility section on chevening.org for your country’s specific rules.

How to apply

The application portal opens in August 2026 at chevening.org/apply. Applications are submitted online and include academic and employment history, a personal statement (750 words), leadership references, and details of the three UK master’s programmes chosen.

The deadline is 7 October 2026 at 12:00 noon GMT. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed in their home country between February and April 2027. Final decisions are communicated before June 2027.
