Overview

Imperial College London’s President’s Africa Scholarship funds African students to pursue a one-year taught Masters in STEM, business, or medicine at one of the UK’s top research universities. The award covers full tuition, accommodation, and living costs. Around 4 to 6 awards per cycle. The 2027 cycle closes 31 March 2027.

Eligibility

  • Citizen of an African country, ordinarily resident in Africa at the time of application.
  • Holding (or expecting) an offer of admission to an Imperial taught Masters programme for September 2027 entry.
  • First-class undergraduate honours from a recognised university (or strong upper-second with research or relevant experience).
  • Demonstrated financial need (other funding sources cannot be combined with this scholarship at full value).
  • Demonstrated leadership and commitment to using your Imperial training to address African development challenges.
  • Commitment to return to Africa after graduation.

How to apply

  1. Apply for admission to your chosen Imperial Masters programme through the Imperial online portal.
  2. Once you hold an offer (conditional or unconditional), complete the President’s Africa Scholarship application form linked from the funding page.
  3. Submit: financial declaration, motivation essay (700 words on your Africa-focused career intent), two academic references, and a brief CV.
  4. Submit before 31 March 2027.
  5. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by video in April or May 2027. Final scholars are announced by June 2027 for September 2027 entry.
