Next Einstein Forum (NEF) Fellowship 2027

Overview

The Next Einstein Forum Fellowship recognises Africa’s best young scientists working in STEM. NEF Fellows are appointed for two-year terms. Around 16 to 20 Fellows per cohort. The fellowship provides visibility, networking, and modest research funding. Notable Fellows include several MacArthur Fellows and laureates of major African and international science prizes. The 2027 cycle closes 30 September 2026.

Eligibility

• Citizen of an African country.
• Aged 42 or younger at the time of selection.
• Holding a PhD in a STEM field (broadly defined: natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer science, medicine).
• Strong research output: significant publications, patents, or impact in your field.
• Working on or based in an African research institution (or returning to Africa during the Fellowship).
• Available to attend the NEF Global Gathering in 2027.

2. Complete the online nomination: applicants can self-nominate or be nominated by an institution.
3. Submit: CV, research statement (5 pages), three references, publication list, and a 500-word statement on your research impact and vision.
4. Submit before 30 September 2026.
5. Final Fellows are announced by March 2027 and inducted at the NEF Global Gathering in mid-2027.
