About the role
Faculty Fellow position at Ashesi University on the Berekuso campus, teaching and developing curriculum in Computer Science and Engineering. Ashesi is Ghana’s leading private liberal arts university, with strong programmes in computer science, engineering, and business administration, and a culture built around an honour code and ethical leadership. Responsibilities
- Teach 4 to 6 undergraduate modules per academic year in computer science or engineering (data structures, algorithms, systems, AI, software engineering, or a chosen specialty).
- Supervise undergraduate capstone projects, which run for two semesters and culminate in industry-relevant deliverables.
- Conduct discipline-relevant research, ideally applied to African contexts (agritech, fintech, education tech, health tech).
- Participate in Ashesi’s African Education Collaborative and other pan-African higher education networks.
- Mentor students through the four-year ethical leadership programme that runs alongside the academic curriculum.
Requirements
- PhD in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. ABDs (all but dissertation) considered for shorter Visiting Fellow appointments.
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching at a liberal arts institution.
- Two or more years of post-PhD teaching, research, or industry experience.
- Willingness to relocate to Berekuso, Ghana (campus is 30 minutes from Accra).
- Fluent English (working and teaching language at Ashesi).
- Open to applicants of any nationality. Ashesi strongly encourages African applicants and applicants from the African diaspora.
Nice to have
- Industry experience in addition to academic credentials.
- Prior experience teaching first-year students or running first-year design courses.
- Publications in CS-education research or applied African-context AI/ML.
- Familiarity with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Ashesi.
