Solutions Architect, AWS Africa

About the role

Amazon Web Services is hiring Solutions Architects in Cape Town to support African enterprise customers (financial services, telecoms, retail, public sector) in their cloud adoption journey. AWS opened its Africa Region (af-south-1) in 2020 and continues to scale field engineering across the continent. Application deadline 30 September 2026.

Responsibilities

• Partner with enterprise customers across Sub-Saharan Africa to design AWS cloud architectures.
• Lead workshops, hands-on labs, and architecture reviews for customer technical teams.
• Author white papers and reference architectures for African market segments.
• Collaborate with AWS account teams (sales, partner, professional services) on customer engagements.
• Influence AWS service roadmaps with field intelligence on African customer requirements.

Requirements

• Five or more years of professional experience in IT architecture, cloud architecture, or systems engineering.
• Two or more years of hands-on AWS experience and at least one AWS Associate-level certification (Professional preferred).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, security, and data architecture.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; comfort presenting to C-suite audiences.
• Authorisation to work in South Africa.

Nice to have

• AWS Solutions Architect Professional or Specialty certifications.
• Prior experience with financial services, telecoms, or public sector customers in Africa.
• Programming background in Python, Java, or Go.
