Sales Manager, East Africa
A full-time sales role at d.light, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
About the role
d.light is a global off-grid solar company providing solar home systems, solar lanterns, and pay-as-you-go financing to off-grid households across Africa and Asia. The Sales Manager, East Africa owns sales for Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda through distributor and direct channels. Application deadline 31 July 2026.
Responsibilities
- Own the East Africa sales P&L: revenue, gross margin, distributor pipeline, and channel mix.
- Lead a team of regional sales managers and channel managers (10 to 15 reports).
- Manage relationships with distributors, retailers, and last-mile sales agents.
- Partner with marketing, finance, and operations to launch new products and promotions.
- Report weekly to the Vice President, Africa Sales.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of sales management experience including three or more years leading distributed sales teams across multiple countries.
- Track record of scaling consumer goods sales in Africa.
- Strong analytical and financial-modelling skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English; Swahili an asset.
- Willingness to travel extensively across East Africa (40 to 50 percent of role).
Nice to have
- Prior experience at an off-grid energy, FMCG, or consumer finance company.
- Familiarity with pay-as-you-go (PayGo) commercial models.
- MBA from a top business school.
