Software Engineer

About the role

Lori Systems is a logistics technology platform that orchestrates freight movement across Africa, with operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire. The Software Engineer joins the platform team building backend services, marketplace pricing tools, and driver mobile apps. Application deadline 15 August 2026.

Responsibilities

• Build backend services in Node.js or Python supporting trip booking, dispatch, and pricing.
• Develop features for the driver mobile app (Android, React Native).
• Participate in design and code reviews.
• Operate services in production through on-call rotations.
• Partner with product and operations teams across Lori markets.

Requirements

• Three or more years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js or Python and at least one major framework (Express, NestJS, FastAPI, Django).
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
• Familiarity with REST API design, message queues, and containerised deployments.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English.

Nice to have

• React Native or native Android experience.
• Prior experience in logistics, transport, or supply chain technology.
• Open source contributions or technical writing.
