About the Role

Makerere University, Uganda’s oldest and most prestigious university, has advertised more than 100 academic, administrative, and support positions across multiple faculties. Open lecturer and senior lecturer roles span disciplines including medicine and health sciences, computer science, social sciences, engineering, and public health. All positions are full-time, permanent appointments at Uganda’s flagship research university.

Applications are submitted through the Makerere University Electronic Human Resource Management System. Makerere’s College of Health Sciences, College of Computing and Information Sciences, and College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology are among the most active recruiting units.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the relevant discipline
  • Develop course materials, assignments, and assessments aligned with faculty learning outcomes
  • Conduct and publish original research in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings
  • Supervise PhD and Master’s thesis students through all stages of research
  • Provide academic service including committee work, curriculum review, and external examining
  • Apply for research funding from national and international sources

Requirements

  • PhD in the relevant discipline (required for Lecturer and above)
  • Relevant teaching and/or research experience at university level
  • At least one peer-reviewed publication in an indexed journal (Lecturer level)
  • For Senior Lecturer: minimum four years post-PhD teaching experience and a stronger publication record
  • Fluent English

Nice to Have

  • Post-doctoral research experience
  • Active research grants or ongoing industry partnerships
  • Experience supervising PhD students to completion
  • Networks with regional or international research consortia relevant to Uganda’s development priorities
