Security Operations Center (SOC) Engineer

About the Role

Yoco, one of Africa’s largest fintech companies serving more than 200,000 businesses across South Africa, is hiring an Intermediate Security Operations Center (SOC) Engineer to strengthen its security monitoring and incident response capabilities. The role is based in Cape Town or Johannesburg and sits within the Security team under the Engineering function.

Yoco processes billions of rands in card transactions annually. This is a strong opportunity for a mid-level security engineer to work on a large-scale production payment environment in Africa.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse security events across Yoco’s systems and applications in real time
• Conduct product security reviews on new and existing features to identify vulnerabilities before launch
• Coordinate detection, response, and recovery processes for security incidents
• Manage and tune security-related event logs and SIEM rule sets
• Collaborate with third-party security firms and internal audit partners
• Develop recommendations for detection strategies, security tooling, and operational controls
• Contribute to improving incident response procedures and playbooks

Requirements

• Minimum three years of full-time blue team security experience
• Proficiency with SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar, Logz.io, ELK stack, or Lucene QL)
• Hands-on incident response and digital forensics investigation experience
• Knowledge of offensive security techniques applied to cloud and remote environments
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work with automation tools for security risk remediation

Nice to Have

• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, GCIH, GCIA, or CEH
• Experience in a fintech, banking, or payment processing security environment
• Familiarity with PCI-DSS compliance requirements
• Background in penetration testing or red team operations
