Overview

The Du Bois-Mandela-Rodney Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Michigan invites scholars whose research focuses on Africa or the African diaspora to spend one year in residence in Ann Arbor. Eligible disciplines span the humanities, social sciences, law, business, and urban planning. The total fellowship package is valued at USD 56,000, including a USD 52,000 stipend and health insurance. Fellows also receive USD 3,000 for research and travel and up to USD 1,000 for relocation costs. Candidates must hold a PhD from an institution other than the University of Michigan.

How to apply

Submit all application materials through the DAAS online application system by 1 November 2026 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Reference letters are due by 8 November 2026. Required documents include a cover letter, CV, research statement, dissertation chapter or writing sample (25-40 pages), and three letters of recommendation. Notifications are sent by 29 January 2027.
