Overview
Schwarzman Scholars is a one-year, fully funded Masters in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing. It is one of the most selective scholarships in the world, with around 150 scholars per cohort drawn from more than 100 countries. The programme is designed for emerging global leaders who want to understand China’s role in the world. Open to applicants from any country, including across Africa. The 2027/28 cycle closes 15 September 2026 (early September for the Africa-region track).

Eligibility
- Aged 18 to 28 on the start date (1 August 2027).
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by 1 August 2027.
- Strong leadership track record: demonstrated impact, not just titles.
- Strong English (the programme is taught in English; no Mandarin required).
- Open to any citizenship; Schwarzman explicitly funds across all regions including Africa.
- Cannot already hold a degree from Tsinghua.
How to apply

- Complete the application: essays (around 3,000 words across multiple prompts), academic transcripts, CV, two recommendation letters (one of which must speak to leadership).
- Submit your video statement (90 seconds, unedited).
- Submit before 15 September 2026 (Africa-track candidates may have an earlier closing date; check the source).
- Semifinalists are interviewed in October or November 2026. Final cohort is announced in December 2026 for August 2027 start.
