University of Sydney International Stipend Scholarship (USYDIS) 2027

Overview
The University of Sydney International Stipend Scholarship (USYDIS) funds outstanding international students in research Master’s or PhD programmes across all faculties. The award covers full tuition and provides a living allowance. Around 30 to 50 awards are made per intake cycle. For students commencing in research periods 1 or 2 of 2027, the application deadline is 11 September 2026.
The USYDIS is one of the most competitive awards at Sydney. Selection is based on research potential and academic record, targeting applicants in the top tier of admitted international research candidates.
Benefits

- Annual stipend of approximately AUD 42,754 (2025 rate, indexed annually)
- Duration: up to 14 research periods for doctoral candidates (roughly 3.5 years) or 7 research periods for Master’s by research (roughly 1.75 years)

Eligibility
- International students only (not Australian citizens, permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens)
- Must hold an unconditional offer of admission to a Master’s by research or PhD programme at the University of Sydney for Research Period 1 or 2, 2027
- Outstanding academic achievement at Honours or Masters level, with demonstrated research potential
- No upper age limit
- Open to all fields of study
Candidates who have already started their research programme may also apply if currently enrolled.
How to Apply
- Apply for admission to a Master’s by research or PhD programme at the University of Sydney and obtain an unconditional offer before the scholarship deadline.
- Log in to the University of Sydney scholarship application portal via your student account at sydney.edu.au/scholarships.
- Select the USYDIS from the available awards and complete the online application, attaching your research proposal, academic transcripts, CV, and two academic referees.
- Submit by 11 September 2026 for research periods 1 or 2 in 2027. A second round closes 18 December 2026 for periods 3 or 4.
Results are communicated within approximately 8 weeks of each deadline. Contact your intended faculty’s research coordinator for guidance on finding a supervisor before applying.
