Study abroad cost calculator
Choose a country, the length of your course and your tuition fee. The calculator builds a first budget from the living-cost figure that country's immigration service sets for student visas, plus the visa and health charges, each linked to its official page.

Where the figures come from
Most countries publish the amount a student must show to get a visa. It is the one figure that is official, public and the same for every applicant, so we use it as the starting point for living costs. It is a minimum, not a comfortable budget. In a big city, or with a family, expect to spend more, and change the living cost box to match what your university's own cost page says.
The United States has no such figure. Each university sets the living cost it puts on your I-20, and that is the number to type in.
Visa and health charges are the fees for a first application from outside the country. Each figure links to the government page it came from, with the date we last checked it. Fees change, often once a year, so check the page before you pay anything.
Using the result
Compare the total with what a scholarship pays. A full award usually covers fees and a monthly stipend; a partial one may cover only part of either, which leaves you to prove the rest of the money for the visa.
