About the role

ALU is recruiting tenure-track faculty across its mission-driven disciplines: Computer Science and Software Engineering, Global Challenges, Climate and Wildlife Conservation, Entrepreneurial Leadership, and the Bachelor of Entrepreneurial Leadership. Faculty work on ALU’s Kigali campus, which serves students from across Africa with a 4-year liberal arts and sciences degree built around real-world missions. Application deadline 31 July 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 4 to 6 undergraduate modules per academic year on the ALU mission-driven model (project-based, with industry partners).
  • Mentor student missions: extended real-world projects with companies, governments, or community partners across Africa.
  • Conduct discipline-relevant research with an applied focus on African development challenges.
  • Co-design curriculum updates each cycle to reflect industry shifts and student feedback.
  • Participate in cross-disciplinary faculty initiatives and African Higher Education community events.

Requirements

  • PhD (or equivalent terminal degree) in the relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching at a mission-driven institution.
  • Two or more years of post-PhD teaching, research, or industry experience.
  • Willingness to relocate to Kigali, Rwanda.
  • Strong English (the working and teaching language at ALU).
  • Open to applicants of any nationality. ALU strongly encourages African applicants.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience in project-based, problem-based, or mission-based pedagogy.
  • Industry experience in addition to academic credentials.
  • Publications in applied or interdisciplinary venues.
  • Familiarity with the African higher education landscape and Pan-African student demographics.
