Business Analyst, McKinsey Africa

About the role

McKinsey & Company has Africa offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nairobi, Lagos, Casablanca, Addis Ababa, and Dakar. The Business Analyst (BA) is the entry-level consulting role for top university graduates. BAs spend two to three years on client teams across multiple industries (financial services, public sector, energy, telecoms, consumer) before pursuing further education or staying as Associates. Responsibilities

• Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses for client projects (data modelling, market sizing, customer interviews, competitive benchmarking).
• Synthesise findings into recommendations and present in client workshops.
• Work in small project teams of three to six consultants across multiple weeks of engagement.
• Build subject-matter expertise in your office’s priority practices.
• Travel to client sites within and across African markets.

Requirements

• Bachelors or Masters degree (any discipline) from a top university with an outstanding academic record.
• Graduating in 2026 or graduated within the past two years.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills demonstrated through academic and extracurricular results.
• Exceptional structured thinking and presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel weekly within the region.

Nice to have

• Prior internship at a top consulting, banking, or technology firm.
• Multilingual ability (French, Portuguese, Arabic, Swahili, Amharic).
• Demonstrated leadership in student or community organisations.
