Overview

The ADB-Japan Scholarship Program is jointly funded by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Japan. It funds Masters study at 27 partner academic institutions across 10 Asian and Pacific countries (Japan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand). Around 300 awards per year. Open to citizens of ADB developing-member countries (most of Asia and parts of the Pacific). The 2027 cycle closes 31 October 2026.

Eligibility

  • Citizen of an ADB developing member country (Asia-Pacific focus; African countries are NOT eligible for this specific scholarship).
  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record.
  • 2 to 4 years of post-Bachelor’s professional work experience (varies by host institution).
  • English proficiency: TOEFL or IELTS as specified by the partner institution.
  • Aged 35 or younger at the time of application.
  • Strong commitment to return to home country and contribute to its development.

How to apply

  1. Open the ADB-Japan Scholarship page at the source link to confirm partner institution eligibility and country list.
  2. Apply for admission directly to one of the 27 partner academic institutions through that institution’s standard graduate admissions process.
  3. In the admission application, indicate your interest in the ADB-Japan Scholarship.
  4. Submit before 31 October 2026 for the 2027 academic intake.
  5. Each partner institution selects its own scholarship recipients; awards are confirmed alongside admission decisions.
