DAAD In-Country/In-Region Masters Scholarship 2027/28 (Sub-Saharan Africa)
A fully funded masters scholarship from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), based in Multiple.
Overview
DAAD’s In-Country/In-Region programme funds Sub-Saharan African students to do a Masters at a partner African university, either in their home country (In-Country) or in another African country (In-Region). The aim is to strengthen African higher education capacity by training future faculty and researchers without losing them to the global North. Partner universities include institutions in Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, and others. The 2027/28 cycle closes 29 April 2027.

- Travel allowance for one return trip per year between home country and host country (In-Region only).

Eligibility
- Citizen of and resident in a Sub-Saharan African country.
- Bachelor’s degree with strong upper-second or first-class honours, completed no more than six years before the application.
- Applying for or admitted to a Masters at one of the DAAD partner programmes in the region.
- Aged under 36 at the time of application.
- Currently working (or about to work) as a junior member of academic staff, in a research role, or in a position where the Masters will demonstrably contribute to academic capacity.
- Commitment to return to your home country after the Masters and contribute to its higher education or research sector.
How to apply

- Apply for admission to your chosen Masters programme at the host African partner university.
- Complete the DAAD scholarship application: motivation letter, CV, references, transcripts, home-institution support letter.
- Submit through the partner programme’s coordinator (the programme handles the DAAD submission).
- Submit before 29 April 2027.
- Decisions are typically announced in July or August 2027 for September entry.
