Overview

The Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships fund up to 16 outstanding PhD students per year working on issues at the intersection of human rights, equity, sustainability, and public engagement. Held at Canadian universities. Worth more than CAD 60,000 per year for four years. Open to Canadian and international students. The 2027 cycle closes 15 December 2026.

Eligibility

• Pursuing a PhD or in the first 24 months of doctoral study at a Canadian university by the start date.
• Doctoral research aligned with the Foundation’s pillars: human rights and dignity, responsible citizenship, Canada and the world, or people and their natural environment.
• Strong academic record and demonstrated engagement with public issues.
• Open to Canadian and international students.
• Three references confirming both academic ability and your public engagement.

3. Complete the application: research proposal, statement of public engagement, CV, transcripts, three references.
4. Submit before 15 December 2026.
