Overview

The Vodacom External Bursary Programme funds South African students in their first, second, or third year of a full-time undergraduate degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) or business and commercial fields at a South African institution. Coverage includes tuition, accommodation, textbooks, meals, a laptop, and a mobile device. Bursars also receive structured workplace experience at Vodacom during semester breaks and access to mentoring and career development support. Applications close 31 August 2026 for the 2027 academic year.

Eligibility

  • South African citizen by birth.
  • Enrolled in, or formally accepted into, a full-time undergraduate degree (first, second, or third year) at a South African university, university of technology, or accredited TVET college.
  • Qualifying fields: computer science, information technology, electrical/electronic engineering, mathematics, data science, physics, chemistry, accounting, finance, economics, business management.
  • Grade 12 average of 70% or higher across all subjects (or 65%+ average if already in first year of tertiary study or above).
  • Not already receiving a bursary or scholarship from another organisation.

How to apply

  1. Visit externalbursary.vodacom.co.za and create an account (or log in if you applied in a previous year).
  2. Complete the online application form with your personal and academic details.
  3. Upload: certified copy of your identity document, certified copy of your most recent academic transcript, Grade 12 results (or NSC certificate), and proof of enrolment or conditional acceptance at a South African institution.
  4. Submit before 31 August 2026. Late submissions are not considered.
  5. Shortlisted applicants are notified for further assessment. Vodacom may close the application early if enough strong candidates apply - submit as early as possible.
