Product Manager

About the role

Wave is the largest financial institution in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire by number of users, offering mobile money at fees 70-80% below the West African average. The company processes millions of transactions daily and is expanding across francophone West Africa. This fully remote Product Manager role serves one of Wave’s core product lines: the user-facing app, merchant tools, agent network, or infrastructure products. Candidates must be based in one of Wave’s operating countries (Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Uganda, or Gambia) or in an approved remote-work country (UK, Spain, USA, Canada, Kenya, or Ghana), and must be within 4 hours of South Africa (CAT/SAST) during core hours. No closing date; rolling applications.

Responsibilities

• Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for a product domain in close collaboration with engineering, design, operations, and country teams.
• Run discovery: interview users (mobile money agents, merchants, end customers) in francophone West African markets; synthesise findings into product requirements.
• Write clear product specs, acceptance criteria, and success metrics; prioritise ruthlessly against Wave’s core goal of driving down financial costs for African households.
• Monitor product KPIs (transaction volume, retention, fraud rate, agent churn) and run structured experiments to improve them.
• Coordinate quarterly travel to Wave’s operational markets (Dakar, Abidjan, Ouagadougou) to build first-hand context.
• Work asynchronously with a globally distributed team; maintain high documentation standards.

Requirements

• 3 or more years of product management experience shipping features to production at significant user scale.
• Demonstrable ability to translate qualitative user research and quantitative data into prioritised product decisions.
• Strong written communication in English; functional French is valuable for fieldwork in francophone markets.
• Comfortable owning a product roadmap end-to-end with limited day-to-day oversight.
• Based in one of Wave’s approved remote-work countries or operating markets.

Nice to have

• Prior mobile money, payments, or fintech product experience in Africa or another emerging market.
• Proficiency in French.
• Hands-on experience with SQL or analytics tools (Amplitude, Mixpanel, Metabase).
• Background in field research or qualitative methods.
