NUS Research Scholarship for Graduate Students 2027
A fully funded phd scholarship from National University of Singapore, based in Singapore.
Overview
The NUS Research Scholarship funds PhD candidates at the National University of Singapore in all faculties. Awards cover full tuition plus a monthly stipend that scales as students progress through their qualifying exam. NUS is consistently ranked among the world’s top 25 universities. Around 800 Research Scholarship awards per year across all NUS departments. The 2027 January intake deadline is 15 November 2026.

- Monthly stipend: SGD 2,200 (pre-qualifying exam), increasing to SGD 2,700 (post-qualifying exam).
- Additional SGD 250-500 supplement for international students from certain departments.

Eligibility
- Citizen of any country (Singapore and international applicants both eligible; international applicants make up a majority).
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) with first-class or strong upper-second honours.
- English proficiency: TOEFL 85+ or IELTS 6.0+; native speakers exempt.
- Identified NUS supervisor and PhD research topic.
- Open to applicants from any country; significant African PhD intake each cycle.
How to apply

- Identify your target department, supervisor, and PhD topic. Most applicants secure pre-application supervisor agreement.
- Apply for admission through the NUS online graduate application portal.
- Submit: academic transcripts, English proficiency scores, two recommendation letters, statement of purpose, research proposal.
- Submit before 15 November 2026 for January 2027 intake (or before 15 May 2026 for August intake).
- Admission and scholarship decisions arrive between February and May 2027.
