Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) 2027

Overview

SINGA is Singapore’s flagship PhD scholarship for international students in science, technology, engineering, and biomedical research. Awards fund four years of doctoral study at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), or Singapore Management University (SMU), in partnership with A*STAR research institutes. Around 240 awards per year. The 2027 January intake closes 1 December 2026; the August intake closes 1 June 2026.

• Monthly stipend: SGD 2,200 (pre-qualifying exam), increasing to SGD 2,700 (post-qualifying exam).

Eligibility

• Citizen of any country other than Singapore.
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) with first-class or strong upper-second honours.
• Strong English (TOEFL 90+ or IELTS 6.5+; native speakers exempt).
• Strong references and an interest in pursuing science or engineering research.
• Open to applicants from any country; significant numbers of African and South Asian recipients each cycle.

How to apply

1. Open the SINGA portal at the source link to browse research areas and identify your preferred A*STAR / partner-university lab.
2. Complete the online application: personal information, academic transcripts, English proficiency scores, three references, statement of research interest, and a list of preferred research areas.
3. Submit by 1 December 2026 for the January 2027 intake.
4. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed remotely by potential supervisors at A*STAR institutes.
5. Final offers are made between February and May 2027 for January or August 2027 entry.
